Having done yoga myself since I was a teenager, I can’t imagine life without it. The Sanskrit word yoga means union, and yoga was traditionally practiced as a way to freedom, and there are many positive side effects as benefits along the way!
Much of today’s yoga has been derived from these ancient practices and I like to practice and teach in a way in line with these philosophies. That means teaching within the framework of the yamas and the niyamas, paying heed to areas like kindness, truthfulness, discipline, self care and contentment.
A regular practice is a great way to stay connected with the body in a positive way. Too many of us spend so much time in our heads, or stuck in a chair glued to a screen. Yoga postures help us to retain a natural range of movements which can help our bodies to function well. As well as the physical benefits yoga will enhance your emotional wellbeing. Each pose has specific and different benefits, for body and mind. Once we have mastered the physical aspects we will usually find ourselves being naturally drawn in to the more meditative elements.
Lots of people tell me they are not flexible enough to do yoga...I promise you, yoga is for all. There is no competition, all bodies will benefit. Try it for yourself
“Yoga with Jane is gentle and nurturing. She provides a space to connect back to yourself in a kind and loving way. Stretching, twisting and releasing...I find it grounding and restorative, letting go of the old and allowing fresh new energy to flow into my body.
The mindfulness aspect helps me focus on just being and observing myself, instead of judging and challenging myself. Thank you Jane, I love practising yoga with you” Ali
